Safeguarding Children and Young People for Foster Carers
Safeguarding is central and key to the work of a foster carer! Indeed, statistics demonstrate that over two thirds of children in care have been abused or harmed. This 4 hour interactive and engaging course offers vital learning for all foster carers whether they are new to the profession or want to refresh their knowledge. Carers will explore the many signs and indicators associated to the different types of abuse and harm and learn about the increased vulnerability of their children and young people to certain types. Confidence will be raised around recording and reporting disclosures and suspicions. Carers will appreciate the importance of partnership working and the huge benefits that this can present for a child or young person.
Time: 10am - 2pm. (Time vary to suit needs.)
To empower carers to safeguard the children and young people in their care and to understand the associated duties and responsibilities.
To explain and act on the legislation and organisational policy associated with safeguarding children and young people in foster care
To describe the signs and indicators of abuse and harm and the increased vulnerability of children and young people in foster care
To know how to record and respond in the event of a safeguarding disclosure or suspicion and respect confidentiality
To recognise the benefits of effective partnership working and the sharing of information in the best interests of the child and young person
